提高英文摘要撰写应注意的10个问题

为了更地道地撰写英文摘要，通过比较英语国家的英文刊和本刊中的英文摘要，发现其中的差异和存在的普遍问题，进而从用词、语序、句式和模板等方面提出了改进意见，供作者写作时参考。

1.冠词及其大小写的运用

（1）罗列结果时，如果是使用序号并列罗列的方式，括号后的冠词首字母为小写； 应使用定冠词the而不应使用An。

（2）描述研究方法时，应用an而不应使用定冠词the来修饰第一次出现的新方法。

例如，在相应的英文版中，将An accumulation mode更改为了the accumulation mode；将Hydrocarbon accumulation theory 更改为了The accumulation theory；将The theory of更改为了the theory of；在Development of 前添加了定冠词The。

2．用词

（1）在表述“最大气田”等意思时，应使用largest，而不能用biggest。

（2）在表述吸附量等大时，要使用large而非big。

（3）关键词大部分为名词形式，不能出现短语。

（4）当表示某种事物在受到某种影响或在某种特定条件下发生变化时，要用becomes而不是is。

更多例子：“近几年”更为地道的表达应为 In the past few years，而不是In recent year。将discoveries更改为了achievements；将studies改为了research（单复数根据主语的更改相应改变）；将experiment data改为laboratory analysis；将systematic summarization变更了词性更改为are systematically summarized of，上述均为用词方面的考量。

3.拼写

（1）美式拼写：当单词结尾为“辅音+元音+辅音”时，结尾的辅音不双写，如modeling

（2）英式拼写：当单词结尾为“辅音+元音+辅音”时，结尾的辅音要双写，如modelling

4.标点符号的运用

（1）状语如by using前不加逗号

（2）that引导的宾语从句后不加任何标点符号直接跟完整的从句。

例如：在Based on……, ……model was established, by using……study of……was carried out, and the……results with the……was analyzed. The results show that……一句中，在by using前面画蛇添足加一个逗号，反而会使整个句子的节奏变得怪异，影响句子的通畅性。针对此问题，提出两种修改方法：1.可直接将逗号去掉，即更改为model was established by using；2.如果想保留逗号，那就可将by 去掉，将原本由by引导的状语部分变为由using引导的一个分句，即model was established , using……，以此提升句子的连贯性。再例如，The results show that, ……。在英文的表达习惯中，that引导的宾语从句后一般是不加任何标点符号直接跟完整的从句的，此句中在that后添加逗号会使句子的节奏被打乱，破坏句子的连贯性与一气呵成的效果，因此逗号应去掉。

5.被动语态

可通过变换词性等方式将被动语态更改为主动语态。   

例如： In order to solve this problem, ……model and……device were made, and a kind of……experiment of……was designed based on…... . Based on the……data (that were recorded by……connected to the……)……were drawn and relevant data analysis methods were summarized.这一例句接连几个分句均采用了were made，was designed，were drawn，were summarized的简单被动语态句式，读起来略显生硬无趣，且在一个句子中过多使用被动语态并不符合地道的英文表达习惯，因此可将其中的几个分句更改为相应的主动语态或是将其拆分为几个单独的句子，如（目的加方法多句式变换的例句结构）The problem of……can be solved well by……model. Considering the……, a……method is proposed. The prediction production for……is obtained basing on the……model. An d then the……model of……is established basing on the prediction output. The……is obtained by solving the……model. In the end, (three)…….ways in……field blcoks are given.从而使句式变换丰富起来，也更加接近本土英文表达。

6.时态

除了确实是几乎不会被推翻和质疑的客观事实等情况，一般是不常使用一般现在时，可由表示过去的一件事对现在产生的影响并有可能继续持续下去的现在完成时替换。

例如：在英文原版中，将The theory of tight sandstone gas accumulation in craton basin, foreland basin and rift basin is developed and deepened一句子中的一般现在时态更改为了have been well-established的现在完成时态，即the accumulation theory of tight sandstone gas in craton basins, foreland basins, and rift basins have been well-established。这其实是非英语母语者在书写英文时经常会犯的错误，一般现在时一般表达的是客观存在的事实或约定俗成的规则等，用于此处明显不符合语境，而现在完成时则通常表示过去的一件事对现在产生的影响并有可能继续持续下去，此句中理论的深化这一中心主体更符合现在完成时所表达的语境，因此选用现在完成时替换一般完成时无可厚非。同理，在紧接着的下一句中，将is established更改为了has been established；将is improved更改为了has been improved。同样，将后句中的is deepened 改为一般过去式也是为了符合英语的表达习惯。总而言之，除了确实是几乎不会被推翻和质疑的客观事实等情况，一般是不常用一般现在时来表达研究结果的。

7.状语的位置

虽然在英文的表达中，状语的位置是极其自由的，但通常为了突出重点，会将时间状语放到靠后的位置。

例如，将When the pore size is between 0.5nm and 0.8nm，the monolayer of methane is adsorbed onto the pore wall，and the local density of methane exhibits the characteristics of a single peak.调整为了Meanwhile, the monolayer of methane is adsorbed onto the pore wall and the local density of methane exhibits the characteristics evident of that of a single peak when the pore size is between 0.5 nm and 0.8 nm；

8.句子的合并与拆分

句子的合并：可通过合并同类项的方式提炼重点精炼句子，减轻句子的繁重感，避免头重脚轻，提高句子的流畅性、完整性与逻辑性。

句子的拆分：可将由and引导的并列句拆分为通过承接性的介词短语引导的单独的句子，以此使句子的层次更加鲜明清晰，句式变得简洁整齐。

例：将When the pore size is between 0.8 nm and 1.2 nm，the adsorption mode changes from single-layer adsorption to double-layer adsorption，and the local density curve changes from unimodal to bimodal调整为了The adsorption mode changes from single-layer adsorption to double-layer adsorption when the pore size is between 0.8 nm and 1.2 nm. In addition, the local density curve changes from unimodal to bimodal。在调整此句的过程中，不仅对句子的语序作出了调整，同时也将原句做了拆分，把原本由and引导的分句改为了一个通过In addition衔接的完整的新句子，如此一来，不仅能够使句子的层次更加鲜明清晰，也能够使得句式变得简洁整齐。

9.将不必要的细节数据结果及多余赘述的部分删除，只留下综述性的总结性结论即可，以精炼结构，突出重点。

例如：To assess……and explore…… , this study examines, quantifies, and models the……

句式中的examine, quantify等综述性的词

10.尽量避免千篇一律套模板，真实地根据具体文章内容客观表述即可，不用刻意追求模板的规范性，过度套用模板反而会导致摘要变得机械死板，新意全无。为丰富用词及句式。表述目的时，可使用in order to 、to、aim、purpose等；表述方法时，可使用based on、by、on the basis of、were used to、using、investigate等；表述结果时，可使用show、suggest、demonstrate、indicate、reveal、reflect、To this end 、As a result、resulted in、resulted from等；表述结论时，可使用represent、present、provide等。
